Afro-Cuban, Haitian & Central African Drum & Dance

Badenyaa African Diaspora Dance Theater is a professional performing arts emsemble dedicated to community building through education, promotion of cultural preservation, and fostering cross-cultural understanding and respect. The group will perform and discuss the cultural importance of music and dance in West and Central Africa and in countries of the African Diaspora, such as the United States, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti, and Brazil. Recommended for ages 5 and older.

Hanafuda Hawaii Style

Helen Nakano of Hanafuda Hawaii will teach the basics of the Japanese card game.  Nakano Sensei will discuss the myths and symbolism of the card designs and provide methods of teaching others the game.  Following her talk, the audience can break into groups for game play, guided by teachers.  Open to ages 8 and up.
