Websites
Using an Internet/Web directory is great way to find relevant websites quickly. Websites are preselected, saving you much time you would otherwise spend sorting through search engine results. There are many terrific compliations of subject lists on public and university library websites; however, we have found that the following directories offer a broad selection of websites on many subjects:
- Google Directory
- Google is best known as an Internet search engine; however Google integrates its sophisticated search technology and directory categories. For example, when you enter a search in the Google directory engine, only the category you are currently in will be searched. This can be particularly useful in restricting your search to a particular topic or domain. For more information about the features of Google Directory see the Google Directory Help.
- Infomine
- INFOMINE is a virtual library of Internet resources relevant to faculty, students, and research staff at the university level. It contains useful Internet resources such as databases, electronic journals, electronic books, bulletin boards, mailing lists, online library card catalogs, articles, directories of researchers, and many other types of information. INFOMINE is librarian built. Librarians from the University of California, Wake Forest University, California State University, the University of Detroit - Mercy, and other universities and colleges have contributed to building INFOMINE.
- ipl2 (Internet Public Library)
- Search the best of the Web. Tens of thousands of annotated entries maintained by librarians and organized into topics.
- Yahoo! Directory
- Yahoo! is one of the best known Internet portals. It was originally only a subject directory. You can search or browse hundreds of subjects.
