Celebrate Mele with a free documentary film screening! Words, Earth & Aloha: The Source of Hawaiian Music honors the profound role of music in Hawaiian life. Focusing on a pivotal era from the 1870s to the 1920s, the film pays tribute to a remarkable generation of Hawaiian composers whose mele (songs) continue to resonate today. This screening is a moving journey into the heart of Hawaiian music - its origins, meanings, and enduring legacy. The 58-minute film is suitable for ages 7 and up.

Kupuna Aikido will present a lesson on safe falling techniques to help decrease the severity of injury from falls, aimed specifically at our community’s kupuna! “Safe falling” is falling in a way that protects your head and prevents broken bones. Kupuna Aikido teaches safe falling classes across the island. Their mission is to empower kupuna with aikido-based principles to preserve and protect their mobile independence. Do you want to learn to play Dungeons & Dragons but don’t know where to start? Join us for a session with the Aloha Adventurers’ Guild! Learn D&D 5th Edition - no experience necessary. Pre-generated character sheets will be provided, or bring your own level 1-3 character! Develop teamwork, communication, and creative problem-solving skills in a judgment-free zone, and make new friends sharing a common interest. Pre-registration preferred; call the library or come to the Reference Desk to sign up. All ages are welcome but session is aimed at children and teens 6yo and up. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
