Get Ready for Summer Reading!

Don't miss the upcoming Summer Reading Programs for children, teens and adults. Registration is accepted from May 29 at the library, and the five-week programs will be held from June 5 through July 7. How does it work? Just read at least one book a week, come to the Reference Desk and log in your title to get a prize. Special drawings will be available for all age groups. Also, check out the special programs offered through our Calendar link. The Summer Reading Programs are offered systemwide every summer and special programs are held at various libraries. How to Commit to the New Idea Fast & Actually Write a Book

Aina Haina Public Library is scheduled to host How to Commit to the New Idea Fast & Actually Write a Book with Lynde Lakes, a free program on Saturday, May 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the meeting room.
 
In the two-hour open workshop by the Romance Writers of America Aloha Chapter, Lakes will focus on query synopsis method, and share her tips on working with publishers.
 
Lakes is a full-time writers with publishing credits including: The Ryan Ranch Cowboy trilogy: Cowboy lies,  Lasso that cowboy, Under cover cowboy; Deadly influence; Virgin wolf I, Virgin wolf II entitled Mellizo wolves.  Her more current releases include: Silent Cymbals, Star fallen lover, Primitive flame, Pointing leaf, Murder in the clear zone
 
This two-hour program is recommended for adults.
 

Music & Dance of Bali

Come for this great all-ages introduction to a culture rich in the performing arts!  Performers I. Made Widana and Anna Reynolds will demonstrate traditional Balinese music and dance.  The ensemble includes gongs, bronze metallophone instruments of various sizes, double-headed drums, and flutes.

Free Comic Book Day

During this annual one-day event, show us your library card to receive a free comic book of your choice.  Limit one per person, while supplies last. 
 
Fully costumed Star Wars characters from Oahu FanForce will be making a special library appearance from 10 am to 4pm.  Bring your camera!
 
Comic book selections range in appropriateness from toddler through adult.  This year selections include Owly, Tinkerbell, Smurfs, Star Wars, Spider-Man, Mouse Guard, Avengers, Dune, and Faerie Moon.  In addition to the new editions listed above, Aina Haina patrons can choose from used collector comic books, most in plastic sleeves.  Used comic book contents are unscreened so parental discretion is advised. 
 

Blue

Meet Blue. Happy in his blue world. This is a simple story of what happens one day when color comes into his life. the show introduces the idea of tolerance and understanding in an age appropriate theatrical experience. Blue is filled with lots of fun, humor and whimsy. This free 45-minute performance is recommended for ages 3 and older. Children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
